1. General Information

We conduct research studies involving both adults and children. Participation is voluntary, and eligibility depends on the specific study. For studies involving adults, participants must be at least 18 years old. Studies involving children require parental or legal guardian consent. By enrolling in a study, participants (or their guardians) agree to follow the rules outlined in this document.

2. Studies in the Computer Laboratory

Some studies take place in a computer laboratory, where each participant makes decisions based on provided instructions. These decisions can impact both their own earnings and those of other participants.

2.1 Participation Rules

  • Only invited participants may take part in a given study. Invitations are sent via email.
  • Participants must enroll for a specific time slot using the link provided in the invitation. This enrollment is binding.
  • At the end of the study, participants receive compensation in Swiss Francs based on their own and others’ decisions.
  • Certificates of participation will not be issued.

2.2 Attendance Policy

  • Studies require a minimum number of participants to proceed.
  • Late arrivals or no-shows may result in study cancellation, leading to financial losses.
  • Participants who fail to attend without valid justification may be excluded from future studies.

3. Neuroeconomic Studies

Neuroeconomic studies investigate brain activity during decision-making using methods such as imaging and pharmacological procedures.

3.1 Participation Rules

  • Participants are contacted by phone to schedule an appointment.
  • Before enrolling, participants receive detailed information about the study’s procedures and compensation and have the opportunity to ask questions.
  • Participation is voluntary—at this stage, participants may decline without consequences.
  • Once enrolled, participation is binding, and the same attendance rules as computer laboratory studies apply.

4. Participant Database

The recruitment system only stores data for research purposes. These data are never shared with third parties and are used solely to:

  • Inform and invite participants to studies.
  • Track attendance and participation history.
  • Manage study recruitment.

Participants can control their participation preferences, including whether they receive study invitations. Participation is limited.

5. Data Usage & Confidentiality

During studies, decision-making data are collected and analyzed by the research institute.

  • All data are anonymized and cannot be linked to individual participants.
  • Anonymized data may be used in scientific publications, presentations, and lectures.

By participating, you agree to the collection and analysis of anonymized data for research purposes.
